Millenial take but Saint Motel rules. I always listened to their second and third album but never actually listened to this one all the way through. Such an incredibly solid first album with an upbeat dance-rock sound and irony-laden vocals.

The Mountain Goats ☼ 2026

Honestly before this album came out I thought it was a direct sequel to the last one for some reason?? I wish I could get as hyped about the mountain goats as a lot of the people around me but I always just end up liking a song here and there.

SPECIAL OTHERS ☼ 2020

This album made me realize I can’t hear the difference between jazz fusion, math rock, and post-rock. Super cool and vibey album that makes me want to hear more of the band but definitely more of an “album listen” without any individual songs I really wanted to add to a playlist or anything like that (not a bad thing at all ofc.)

Back to Basics

Christina Aguilera ☼ 2006

My mom got this album when I was a kid and I commandeered it for my own listening purposes. I’m not sure what it was about this album, if it was something about the actual music or if I just hit the right developmental phase around that time, but I feel like this album woke me up to listening to music in the way I do now. Like it was the first time I really heard/identified individual instruments, and the first time I liked a song and could explain what it was that I liked about it. Great album with incredible art direction and a super cohesive concept.

Cansei de Ser Sexy

CSS ☼ 2005

Dance punk revival when?? I’ve been craving this type of music lately and this album definitely did scratch the itch. Listened to some of CSS’ songs for years but this is the first time I listened to the whole album. I wouldn’t say I liked every song individually, but I do feel like they all came together to make a solid, cohesive album. Definitely going to be looking for some newer artists with this kind of sound!

HEY i know that guy!! This album was incredibly well-produced and the vocals/melodies are on point. My faves were Cosmic High (secret EDM??) and call you mine ♩¨̮(ง ˙˘˙ )ว♩¨̮

Solid electro-pop/dance-pop album that is helping soundtrack my summer even though it’s technically nothing exceptional. I just feel so drawn to the bored cool-girl vocals and chilled-out house-y beats

Music Fashion Film

Charli XCX ☼ 2026

I waited a couple days to post this one because I wanted to let it digest a little. I’ve been a Charli fan for a long time but Brat was definitely when I was listening most. When the singles were coming out, I remember literally telling my husband I hoped the album would be more like SS26/Wink Wink and less like Rock Music, and my wish absolutely did not come true because most of the album was “Rock Music” flavored.

I could talk about the fact that I’ll probably like the album more after listening to it a few more times, or the way that we tend to want an artist to keep sounding the same way that they did when we got into them. Honestly though, I think the most interesting thing about the album is a bit counter to those points - it feels like she made this album counter to Brat and the persona she cultivated for that album’s marketing. It has a more raw, abrasive feel and more personal/introspective/self-referential themes. The final track was incredible and I loved David Cronenberg’s monologue on it and it wraps up the whole album perfectly. I’ll probably revisit my thoughts on this after I listen to it again later!

Helado Tropical

Helado Negro & Reyna Tropical ☼ 2026

I like Reyna Tropical but never really listened to Helado Negro. This album had a great chilled-out summer night vibe, but unfortunately “chilled out” hasn’t been hitting for me lately so I’m not in the right mood to really enjoy it and probably will give it another try when I’m listening to more laid back/less dance-y stuff!

Romanticize the Dive

I LOVE METRIC and this being their 10th album and 25th year as a band has me feeling elderly and emotional. Their sound is familiar enough to make me nostalgic but fresh enough to keep me interested. I didn’t love every song but I never met a Metric album I didn’t like so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Super danceable 2010s EDM/pop style album, definitely fit my summer theme (women make computer noises and I dance to them)

Strudel queen, I’ve learned so much from watching her live coding sets and tutorials but this is the first time I’ve actually checked out the whole album. It’s also crazy to see how far she’s progressed in the last couple years and I hope she comes out with another album soon!! Fun fact Dane’s old band played a show with her old band which is how I know about her (づ ᴗ _ᴗ)づ♡

Maggot Brain

Looove Parliament-Funkadelic and this album listen was long overdue. Can You Get To That is still reigning champ for my fave Funkadelic song and probably my favorite Funk song in general. I wanna know if you can get to that ᕕ(⌐■_■)ᕗ♪♬

Maybe Not Tonight

Self-deprecating angsty 20-something post-/dance-punk revival. It was a short and fun album and got a couple song saves out of me! Kinda like Wet Leg but I’d say I liked them better
